As an antidote to the consumption frenzy that is Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you might be interested to know that your participation in the Women’s Sea Kayak Festival will fund a place for a new coach to get started on their paddle sports coaching journey.
As in previous years, and as many of you know, we run the event on a not for profit basis, donating any surplus made to charity. This year, the Festival Organisers have agreed to support Pinkston Watersports, the community charity in Glasgow, to fund a young female or community worker from the east end of Glasgow to train as a paddle sports coach.
All coaching and mentoring is provided through Pinkston and at the end the student will qualify as an UKCC Level 1 Coach and will be provided with some personal paddling equipment. The course starting in early 2017 will be based at the artificial white water course and basin in Glasgow’s east end, and will also include trips to pools, rivers and other paddling locations.
We will keep a small float in the festival bank account to kick off the next event in Scotland in 2018. Until then enjoy 2017 with our friends running the festival on 19-21 August in Devon next year, details on the Devon Festival Facebook page.
Happy paddling for 2017. Here is a wintry image taken from Ettrick Bay looking west to Arran.
