About the Festival

The Women’s Sea Kayak Festival is a three day event supporting female sea kayakers and coaches in coastal argyll. The festival runs on Bute on 17th-19th August 2018 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The festival is all about exploring the beautiful coastline by sea kayak, with other female paddlers and meeting and learning from top level female coaches and guides. We’re proud to support and facilitate an all female-led coaching team with an emphasis on learning and fun.

The Women’s Sea Kayak Festival started on the Isle of Bute in 2012 and after three successful years on Bute, 2013, 2014,  a sister festival  was held in Devon in 2015, and was a resounding success. The festival returned to Bute in 2016, and back to Devon in 2017.

Our Festival aims to:

  • provide you with great paddling and learning in a great location
  • pay our female coaches coaches a better than average professional fee
  • eat good food together, enjoy each other’s stories and smile a lot

It includes:

  • 3 days of coaching and guiding at a maximum ratio of 1:6.
  • Both evening meals (A buffet meal and a 3 course dinner) in Ettrick Bay tearoom
  • A outdoor marquee for socialising
  • Coastal camping for 3 nights with toilets
  • Talks, raffle and more

About our pricing

We set what the price to cover our costs based on selling 90% of the available places. If we sell out 100%, which fortunately we always have succeeded in doing, we donate the small profit to charity. These have included in the past the RNLI, Beachwatch Bute and in 2016 supporting a young female paddler to gain her Level 1 Coach Certificate through Pinkston Watersports Centre in Glasgow.

Port Edgar Watersports

Port Edgar Watersports

The festival on Bute is supported by Port Edgar Watersports CIC. This is a growing company working hard to help people enjoy being active in and on the water. Based under the spectacular Forth Bridges just outside Edinburgh, they offer sea kayaking, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. As a Community Interest Company, profits are put into supporting those who might otherwise find it hard to access watersports. For the second time, Port Edgar is supporting the Women’s Sea Kayak Festival by providing kayak hire and transport, as well as the experience and expertise of their staff. www.portedgarwatersports.com

The event is run and organised by a small group of volunteers. Please be kind.
